Nestled in the heart of George Town, Project Occupy Beach Street was established in the year 2013 with the initial thoughts of filling up car free streets with fun physical activities plus a well-organized pop up market dedicated to the public. In 2018, the project is operating at its fifth year and with this amout of time and sustainability, it leads the public to see a lively yet amusing street on every regular Sundays regardless of rain or shine. Within 5 years, the project been through expansion that intended to covers wider area for a larger space to develop better and safer street programmes, been carried out activities of scale from small to big, gathered a street of talents and accomodated a mass crowd of enthusiastic people. Activities ranging from heritage discovery walk, sports, games, performances, carnivals, awareness and many more will be held accordingly.

Penang Car Free Day

Launched on the 11th of December 2011, the Penang Car Free Day was introduced as part of the Cleaner Greener Penang campaign, intended to free streets from automobiles, encourage the reduce of vehicle pollutants and most importantly, reclaiming the streets for the people that normally reserved for the traffic every Sundays. In 2013, Project Occupy Beach Street came into place conjunctionally with PCFD, developed the idea of filling in these streets with lots of fun and colors. Since then, it became a platform perfectly formed for awareness, significant festivals and propaganda as well as classic programmes and activities that fit for all.
